Creative Bookbinding | September 25th

$35.00

why do we journal? what draws us to it and keeps us from it? this class will instruct on book-binding techniques like sewing signatures, preparing and attaching a cover, and adding endpapers. no experience is required, and all supplies will be provided, but you’re invited to bring any paper or fabric you may be interested in adding to your book. we’ll take time to discuss journaling as an altar to self and creativity, and how to use bookbinding as a talisman against perfectionism. you will leave with a complete art object that can then be filled with anything you want: collage, junk journaling, diary writing, research, class notes, poetry, drawings, ad infinitum.

whether you are an aspirational, current, or former journaler, or just curious about bookbinding, you’re invited to come explore the process of creating a one of a kind journal to fill as you choose.

August 25th | 6:30pm-8:30pm

AJ is a multimedia artist who relocated to Somerville, Massachusetts after a childhood in the dense humidity and cicada buzz of southwest Ohio. She is a current art education graduate student at MassArt, and a collager, book binder, printmaker, painter, sewist, and more. AJ’s work is marked by the intersection of form and function, a love for the whimsy and colorful, the everyday tidbits fashioned into something vibrant and spectacular. She creates collages and bound books from found materials, and the ongoing use of recycled media is essential to her work. To AJ, the creation of art is a daily adventure into new ways of making, creating, and understanding. You can find more of AJ at ajmt.notion.site and @aj.okaay on instagram.
